Do I need separate or additional coverage for high-value items such as jewelry in my home?

A standard homeowner's insurance policy includes coverage for most high value items if they are stolen or damaged in any way. High value items include jewelry, expensive dresses and suits, watches, china, paintings, fabulous furniture, and more. It is important to understand that while the standard homeowner's policy provides some form of coverage, it is limited to the specific amount mentioned in the policy. For example, most homeowner's policies will cover jewelry of accumulated value of about $1,500 and wherein a single article is not valued at more than $1,000. After going through your homeowner's insurance policy, speak to your insurance agent if you feel that your high value items are not receiving adequate coverage. You could then add additional coverage or endorsements to your policy or simply take on an additional policy for the items in question.
