The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC<\/a>) found that nationwide, premiums jumped up 7.6 percent in 2011 and another 5.7 percent in 2012. Where you decide to call home can have a big effect on your rates. The study by the NAIC broke out average costs by state. The top five most expensive states for homeowners insurance were:<\/p>\n

  2. Louisiana<\/a> -$1,742<\/li>\n
  3. Texas<\/a> – $1,661<\/li>\n
  4. Oklahoma – $1,501<\/li>\n
  5. Mississippi<\/a> – $1,314<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
