When Insurance.com ran the numbers, Oklahoma was the most expensive state in the country for homeowners coverage with an average annual premium of $5,317. Hawaii was on the other end of the spectrum at $582 a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oklahoma is located in Tornado Alley which sees plenty of severe weather which will almost always result in higher premiums. States that experience natural disasters, such as tornadoes, wildfires, or hurricanes will typically have higher insurance rates than less severe weather prone states.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>States with the most expensive homeowners insurance rates<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Insurance.com report found that the following states have the highest annual homeowner insurance rates in the U.S.:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Oklahoma: $5,317\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gethomeinsurancequotes.com\/kansas\/homeowners-insurance-quotes.php\">Kansas<\/a>: $4,939<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gethomeinsurancequotes.com\/nebraska\/homeowners-insurance-quotes.php\">Nebraska<\/a>: $4,893<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arkansas: $4,201<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gethomeinsurancequotes.com\/texas\/homeowners-insurance-quotes.php\">Texas<\/a>: $4,142<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these states are no stranger to severe weather including tornadoes which can do massive damage. Frequent severe weather events will almost always lead to higher homeowner rates as insurers are on the hook to repair or replace your home if it is damaged in a storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>States with the lowest rates for homeowners insurance rates<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These states have the lowest annual homeowner rates in the country:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hawaii: $582<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gethomeinsurancequotes.com\/california\/homeowners-insurance-quotes.php\">California<\/a>: $1,380<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Washington D.C.: $1,520<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vermont: $1,540<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gethomeinsurancequotes.com\/new-hampshire\/homeowners-insurance-quotes.php\">New Hampshire<\/a>: $1,551<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of these states are located in areas where natural disasters are not common. In addition, Hawaii has strict building codes that help prevent damage from smaller storms and help keep homeowners insurance affordable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As climate change continues to spawn more frequent and severe storms, insurers have been raising rates to match the risk they now face.
